The technology recommendation, while targeting the integration into the overall ecosystem,  includes solutions meeting the requirements of the forthcoming mandate, as currently foreseen. Airspace users in this category have the right of way over other airspace users, except for balloons, and only need an “out” function to be electronically visible to others. The better the manoeuvrability of the aircraft (electric motor, 3‑axis controlled), the more important it is to receive information about other traffic: a device capable of an “in” function should be considered. Most devices in use today are already capable of using ADS-L via software upgrade.

Technology recommendation:

1. ADS-L

ADS-L Out is the required standard to be visible to other airspace users. Until the users equipped with ADS-L In devices represent a large majority, it is recommended to keep existing solutions (e.g. FANET and FANET+) and upgrade them to ADS-L. A device capable of ADS-L In/Out should be considered, especially with more manoeuverable  aircraft.
