Infrastructure

Aerodromes – general
Aerodromes are places where aircraft land and take off, are stationed and maintained. They are facilities for the handling of goods and movement of passengers.

National airports
The country's international airports connect Switzerland to Europe and the global centres of air traffic.

Regional airports
Regional airports primarily serve business, tourist and work flights. They complement the international airports as providers of public air transport.

Air Traffic Control and Airspace
Air traffic service is responsible for a safe and efficient handling of air traffic. In order to facilitate this task, the airspace is divided into sectors and classes whereby different rules apply to the traffic flying to and from the Swiss airport or crossing the Swiss airspace.

Air navigation obstacles

Sectoral Aviation Infrastructure Plan (SAIP)
The Sectoral Aviation Infrastructure Plan (SAIP) is the federal government's planning and coordination instrument for civil aviation. It sets out the purpose, required perimeter, main aspects of use, equipment and general operating conditions for every aerodrome. The SAIP forms the basis for the planning, construction and operation of an aerodrome, in particular for concessions and operating regulations. English is not one of Switzerland's official languages. Please consult the German or French pages.
