Information on changes to pilot licences

Acquisition and renewal of pilot licences
The issuance and the renewal of pilot licences (aeroplanes, sailplanes, helicopters, balloons) are the responsibility of the FOCA.

Theory examination
Persons wishing to obtain a pilot licence or instrument rating are required to pass an official theory examination. Candidates must pass the theory examination before they can take the practical examination.

Radio telephony
Pilots are required to demonstrate that they possess the necessary active and passive skills in the languages used in aviation radio telephony.

Language proficiency tests
Pilots must demonstrate that they possess the necessary degree of active and passive proficiency in the languages used in aviation radio telephony

Flight examination
The issue, renewal or extension of a pilot’s licence or authorisation is based on an examination that is carried out in accordance with the relevant national and international standards. Examinations are supervised and assessed by FOCA inspectors or by examiners appointed by the FOCA.
