Information on flying your drone
In which category do I operate my drone?
In the annex you will find information on different drone categories to help you plan your drone operation safely and in compliance with the rules.
- Most drones can be flown in the open category. This does not require a licence from the FOCA, but certain requirements (or conditions) must be met, such as a maximum altitude of 120m above ground and constant visual contact. You can find out more about which rules apply and whether there are areas where flying is not permitted in the open category section.
- If you cannot comply with the rules of the open category, the flight falls into the specific category. This includes flights beyond visual line of sight or flights over crowds of people, which involve increased risk and therefore require a licence from the FOCA.
