FASST-CH Analysis

In 2024, FASST-CH analyzed and assessed services and technologies enabling e-conspicuity.

In Switzerland, the widespread use of non-certified systems (such as PowerFLARM) by low-end general aviation airspace users complements the use of transponder. The Swiss aviation community demonstrates a proactive approach to e-conspicuity, through “do-it-yourself” ground-based infrastructure of receive antennas.

FASST-CH concluded that an e-conspicuity mandate – particularly in class E airspace - is possible and beneficial for both manned and unmanned flights. In specific parts of the airspace and certain user groups can be allowed to comply to the mandate thank to alternative solutions to transponder.

Recommendations of the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (STSB), the requests from the general aviation for a better access to airspace, complex drone operation requirements as well as AVISTRAT strategy all concur to FASST-CH conclusions.
