This section is responsible for supervising the economic capacity and viability of airlines, training organisations, airports and air traffic control. It manages civil aviation statistics and supervises fees and charges for air traffic control and airports. It also supervises the allocation of slots at airports and is responsible for approving the carriage conditions for airlines. The Economic Affairs section also incorporates the Swiss bureau for the enforcement of passengers' rights and the coordination centre for examining applications for funding from the special financing of civil aviation (use of revenue from aviation fuel tax).
