The KFU is responsible for the coordination of all FOCA dealings with the Swiss Accident Investigation Board (STSB), the Safety Office of DETEC as well as with cantonal police forces that direct enquires regarding aircraft accidents to the FOCA.
The actual handling of aircraft accident investigations, the legal bases in connection with aircraft accident investigations, the compilation of aircraft accident statistics and corresponding enquiries from international organisations (e.g. ECAC, ICAO), however, fall within the remit of the SAIB.
