Purpose

With this bulletin, the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) wishes to inform you about significant findings that have been obtained from various incidents, and to pass on its associated recommendation.

In connection with various incidents involving Lycoming engines it has been ascertained that fuel has penetrated the carburetor float. This has altered the necessary fuel mixture for ensuring trouble-free operation, and has given rise to engine malfunctions and failuires.

As a consequence of these incidents, the manufacturer - Precision Airmotive LLC - has issued two "Service Information Letters": SIL MS-11R1 and SIL MS-12. In addition, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has released a "Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin": SAIB CE-06-33.

Recommendation

With this bulletin, the FOCA recommends aircraft operators and maintenance personnel to take note of the recommendations provided in the above-mentioned documents (and any subsequent revisions or new bulletins) and to take appropriate action.

This FOCA bulletin does not secure the provision of any subsequent revisions or new bulletins.
