Mass and Balance - « Do you know the limits? »
Over the last years, numerous incidents and accidents occurred in Swiss civil aviation where due to improper loading of the aircraft, safe operation was compromised or even led to the loss of control.
Accident- and incident reports identify that loading errors on an aircraft can be split lagely in two categories:
- discrepancy between mass and balance and actual load;
- loads which were not correctly secured.
The FOCA safety awareness posters should remind pilots of the importance of accurate mass and balance calculation and point out the potential consequences if the applicable limitations are neglected.
