Safety inspections by the International Civil Aviation Organization

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) carries out safety audits and other oversight activities to verify the application of its standards and recommendations by member countries. The aim is to examine the way in which these countries oversee and authorise civil aviation stakeholders. ICAO examines eight different areas
in depth, ranging from the legal basis and the structure of the supervisory authority, to certification provisions and the issuing of licences.

The first audit of the FOCA by ICAO took place in November 2000. The most recent comprehensive audit of Swiss civil aviation was carried out in March 2010. In the meantime, ICAO has carried out several ad-hoc safety assessments.

The corresponding audit reports are available at the bottom of this page.
