Radio telephony

Pilots are required to demonstrate that they possess the necessary active and passive skills in the languages used in aviation radio telephony. The requirements depend on the type of licence and the intended use of licences (VFR, IFR, etc.).

New:

As part of the official radiotelephony examination, a simulated visual flight is conducted in Swiss airspace. Candidates use their ICAO chart and the current VFR Manual Switzerland.
As Basel Airport (LFSB) is no longer included in the official VFR Manual since January 1, 2022, the French aviation authority DGAC provides the necessary approach charts (VAC) free of charge.
From September 1, 2025, only the current DGAC charts for Basel may be used in the radiotelephony examination. These can be found at:
