The Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) registers aeroplanes, helicopters and other rotorcraft, gliders and motor gliders, (manned) balloons and airships in the Swiss Aircraft Register. Information on unmanned aviation (drones and model aircraft) see drones. The ownership requirements for an aircraft must be met at all times in order to remain in the Swiss Aircraft Register.

The Swiss Aircraft Register is used for reserving aircraft registration marks for aircraft, to register, suspend, reinstate or deregister aircraft, and to make changes to aircraft holders and/ or owners, among other things. These guidelines explain the most important aircraft register procedures.
Unless otherwise stated, all regulations and procedures also apply to the Liechtenstein Aircraft Register, which is also maintained by the FOCA.
